Start A Cat Day Group

One way to get together with other cat-lovers is to log on to CraigsList.org, the free bulletin board for ads.

Click on your city in right column.
Next, click on "Community."
Then click "Pets," and post a message such as:

CAT LOVERS UNITE!

There's a new book called "Happy Cat Day" that proposes August 15th as an official holiday. This sounds like fun, so I'm looking for other people who love cats and would like to join in to see if we can come up with ideas to make it happen. And maybe have some laughs. I'll be at (PLACE) on (DAY) and (TIME) with a sign "Happy Cat Day." Call or e-mail me for details. (E-MAIL ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER)

Craig's only caters to big cities; if your town isn't on their list, check out local cat orgs, veterinary offices and pet stores - places where cat owners hang out - to see if you can put up announcements. Also try community, church and store bulletin boards.

Also post your message in other category titles under "
Community, too, including "Activity Partners," ""Groups," and "Events."

Also click "Discussion Forums" and post your message under "Pets."

You'll probably have to re-post your message every couple of days with updates; try different headlines, too, to see which lines attracts the most responses. Maybe start with "Happy Cat Day." And another day with "Book Promotes Cat Holiday." Or "Hello Cat People!" And maybe "Celebrate Cats on August 15." And some of your own, too.

No one may show up the first time. You'll likely have to re-post the message a number of times until you get enough responses. Accumulate e-mail addresses and names. And at your first meeting (If you post enough times, they will come) propose a list of dates to see when people can make it.
